Overview

On this full-day tour, you'll be driven to the Oak Alley Plantation House, then see the Cajuns of the bayou living and surviving in harmony with the swamps. Located about an hour and a half outside the city of New Orleans, Oak Alley is one of the most magnificent plantation tours because of the 28, evenly spaced, huge Oak Trees that go from the river road to the Plantation House. Experience bayou living where here, the waterways are their highways. From the relaxed comfort of our covered New Orleans Swamp Tour Boats, you will drift slowly past a 2000 year old Indian Burial Mound, a Cajun cemetery and Fishing village! You may see the wildlife that made the Barataria Swamps the Crown Jewel of the Louisiana Purchase.

Our boat captain, Ernie, was so knowledgeable on everything in the swamp! We were fortunate to see several alligators and he gave so much information about the gators and the swamp. At Oak Alley we had Shannon and she was exceptional! So professional and clear with everything she was saying. Last but not least, Keith, our driver for the day was so great! Friendly, professional, and careful! We had a great day and would recommend this tour to anyone!

We overall had a really great experience! Our driver, Darren, was very friendly and knowledgeable about the history and culture of New Orleans and also timely in picking us up from the hotel. The Oak Valley Plantation included a good lunch break. The swamp tour was the highlight of our trip with Dewey as our guide. He had local knowledge of the area and was passionate about his job. Overall a great experience and would come again with a new group of friends.

The swamp boat tour was amazing! That is the entire reason for the five-star review. I’d give the tour guide, Ernie, six stars if I could! I learned so much from him. It was hands-down my favorite tour of the four I’ve been on so far this week, and I’m sure it’ll still be my favorite after the two I’m taking today though I’m looking forward to them and expect to enjoy them very much. I highly recommend the swamp tour, and make sure to request Ernie as your guide!Oak alley was ok, the guided tour was very crowded and folks in the back of the line had a hard time hearing the guide; when they commented on it he repeated a small part of what they’d missed but those of us at the front heard a lot more about the house and the occupants. The rebuilt slave quarters exhibit with information about the enslaved people was my favorite (though not part of the guided tour) and I wish I’d had more time to spend looking through that part. The bus drivers weren’t great. The one driving to Oak Alley wasn’t wearing her mask and got an attitude when another customer was surprised that the bus wasn’t following the posted mask policy for the 1.5 hour drive, suggesting they just “spread out” which wouldn’t do much good in a stuffy closed bus, and begrudgingly asked everyone to wear masks “if they had them” because “another customer was concerned.” The other driver back to NOLA from the swamp tour left three minutes before he said he would, after I’d even confirmed the time with him, joking that I didn’t want to be left behind. . .he left without me and didn’t even apologize when he returned. He seemed annoyed that he had to come back to get me when the tour guide called and insisted, though he was called back quickly, still before it was even the time he’d said he would leave.

The tour is nice and relaxed. The Oak Alley plantation visit is nice, it would be better to have a little more time off at the end and arrive a little later to New Orleans, in order to enjoy lunch, the gardens and other exhibits. The swamp boat tour is done in a larger vessel than I expected (not an air boat), but it's also nice!

Learning that the slaves could buy their freedom, and seeing the poor conditions they lived in. Very sad.
