    GARDEN DISTRICT - Since 1832 The romance blooms as the afternoon is spent exploring memories of New Orleans’ antebellum past, gazing at secluded mansions, wandering down the brick lined sidewalks. Its canopy of oak trees is world-famous, while its characteristic gardens of hibiscuses, crepe myrtles & angel trumpets, make it one of New Orleans' most beautiful neighborhoods. The Garden District has worked its magic. I will share with you the history of the Garden District from the early 1800's. This 1,300-acre outdoor oasis has enchanted New Orleanians since 1854, making it one of the nation’s oldest urban parks. The crown jewel of City Park is the world’s largest stand of mature southern live oaks, which includes a Grand Oak that dates back over 800 years. These unique trees are known for their distinctive sculptural shape - some of the oldest trees have limbs that are twice as long as the oak is tall.
