Once on site Oak Alley starts with the breathtaking sight of its signature quarter-mile avenue of 300-year-old live oaks draped in Spanish moss, leading right up to the classic Greek Revival mansion.
The guided tours inside typically focus on the architectural details and the stories of the wealthy families who lived on the plantation, showcasing period furnishings and the daily lives of the residents.
A vital and somber part of the experience is visiting the restored slave cabins and the memorial, which provides a crucial perspective on the enslaved people whose labor made the plantation's immense wealth possible.
